Description
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) intends to award on a sole source basis, under the Simplified Acquisition Procedure (dollar threshold of $100,000), an award to Wolters Kluwer Health, 77 Westport Plaza, Ste 450, Saint Louis, MO 63146-3125 for licenses to obtain Medi-Span's Master Drug Data Base (MDDB). Under the authority of FAR 6.301-1 10 U.S.C. 2304 only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirement. The use of the proven content of these databases will help managed therapeutic adverse events and improvement patient outcomes. The demand for these drug data has been increasing to assist with studies demonstrations, and projects associated with the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003. Wolters Kluwers is the only source of the Master Drug Data Base (MDDB). CMS uses MDDB exclusively for research and analysis project related to Medicare and Medicaid programs. The specific data, in the specific format supplied by Wolters Kluwers has been used by CMS for a number of years. CMS programs depend on this data, and the statistical series would be corrupted if we were to lose this source now. This contract will also make all past uses acceptable and will allow retention of the data. Wolters Kluwer is the only source of the MDDB, which CMS/ORDI needs to carry out research. In order to qualify as a potential contractor for this current award, the identical data files (MDDB) must already be in existence and available to the contractor. Wolters Kluwer's products include a complete line of drug databases, including clinical decision support and disease suite modules, applicators program interfaces, and stand alone PC products. For more than 30 years, their databases have been incorporated into thousands of vender and independent backbone systems. The Wolters Kluower's databases include descriptive drug information, drug pricing, and drug identification. Wolters Kluwer's unsurpassed clinical information and drug data, combined with First Data Bank's drug databases is the most complete source of current and authoritative drug information available. The period of performance is May 15, 2010 - May 14, 2011 with two (2) option periods. NAICS CODE is 511130.
