Description
Notice Type: Special Notice SYNOPSIS RECOVERY-THE ACQUISITION OF HIGH-END NETWORKING EQUIPMENT TO SUPPORT THE NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMNISTRATION (NOAA) RESEARCH NETWORK (NRN). THIS NOTICE IS PROVIDED FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY-THE SOLICITATION (69060) WILL BE SOLICITED AS A REQUEST FOR QUOTATION VIA THE NASA SEWP IV CONTRACT VEHICLE AS A TOTAL SMALL BUSINESS SET-ASIDE. SEWP IV GROUP A--VALUE ADDED RESELLER (VAR), AND COMPUTER SYSTEM ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER (OEM) CONTRACTORS; AND GROUP D--VAR CONTRACTORS. PROJECT INFORMATION: The applicable NAICS code is 334119 OTHER COMPUTER PERIPHERAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURING. NOAA is in the process of engineering a l0 GE capable Wide Area Network that will interconnect select national NOAA Research Network sites along with their associated supercomputing resources to further the scientific mission of NOAA. This NOAA Research Network will be a reliable, flexible, high performance, expandable network which will require high-end networking equipment to meet these goals as well as infrastructure equipment to support the research systems at the designated locations. Four primary sites will be interconnected via dual l0 GE links on redundant hardware located at each site's Gigabit Point of Presence (GigaPop). Hardware will also be located locally at some sites for interconnection to GigaPops if not already available. The four primary interconnected sites are: (1) Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) in Princeton, NJ, (2) Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL) in Boulder, CO, (3) National Weather Service's National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) in Gaithersburg, MD and, (4) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Oak Ridge, TN.
