- Description
- The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) proposes to enter into a sole source agreement with Budris-Consulting, 10 Peregrine Dr., Washington NJ, 07882 for follow on work relating to independent analysis in the hydrodynamics and mechanical performance of centrifugal pumps. A competitive award of purchase order DR-09-270 was made to Budris-Consulting on September 25, 2009, entitled, "Criterion for the Net Positive Suction Head (NPSH) Margin to Apply to Containment Overpressure." Under this contract, Mr. Budris completed four tasks related to the NPSH for pumps used in reactor emergency core cooling system and containment heat removal systems and developed estimates of uncertainty in the required NPSH for these pumps at the 3 % head loss value. Budris-Consulting recommended how this information can be included in a criterion for the NPSH margin. The methodology and approach Budris-Consulting developed to arrive at these recommendations became instrumental in the development of NRC's revised draft criteria for centrifugal pump net positive suction head operating margin during postulated reactor accident conditions including pump performance in cavitation. This purchase Order DR-09-270 expired on December 18, 2009. Budris-Consulting expertise is required to support the NRC staff in discussions with the industry in explaining the criteria and justifying the criteria for the use of containment accident pressure in determining available NPSH to both the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards and the NRC Commission. The period of performance of this follow on effort is four months from date of award. This is not a request for competitive proposals. Request for copies of this solicitation will not be honored unless the respondent provides evidence showing their capability to perform the required services. Inquiries regarding this announcement may be made to Jeffrey R. Mitchell, Contracting Officer by phone at (301) 492-3639 or via e-mail at Jeffrey.Mitchell@nrc.gov. This announcement was posted on March 30, 2010 and will close on April 9, 2010.
