Description
The JHQ VAMC requires the professional services of a Radiation Physicist to be on-site a minimum of three (3) days per week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, as well as to provide emergency radiation physicist services on call during non-working days, after work hours, and including federal holidays, as needed. The Radiation Physicist/ Radiation Safety Officer shall be responsible for performing weekly, monthly quarterly and annual Quality Assurance testing and monitoring of Varian 21EX Medical Linear accelerator, Varian Eclipse treatment planning computer and Phillips CT simulator according to AAPM TG 51 protocol. The Physicist shall also prepare all required records and reports in preparation for and maintaining the ongoing comprehensive American College of Radiology accreditation of Radiation Oncology program. The Radiation Physicist shall be present during ACR inspections to address all inquiries. Perform treatment planning as need, during absence of dosimetrist. The Radiation Physicist shall also serve as a Radiation Safety Officer responsible for implementing the Radiation Safety Program and ensuring that Radiation Safety activities are being performed in accordance with approved procedures and regulatory requirements. As such, the Physicist investigate overexposures, accidents, spills, losses, thefts, unauthorized receipts, uses, transfers, disposals, misadministration, and other deviations from approved radiation safety practice and implement corrective actions as necessary. Contractor shall be available to be on-station, as needed as Radiation Safety Officer within (1) Hour of notification by the Chief, Radiation Oncology (or designee). Perform all duties associated with the radiation film badge system. The competencies and skills required of the Radiation Physicist/ Radiation Safety Officer are critical to the daily operation of the Hospital. The proposed Contractor, RADPHYs, has been successfully performing an emergency purchase order for the last nine (9) months issued as a result two unsuccessful attempts to competitively procure the required services using GSAs Federal Supply Schedule as a procurement vehicle. RADPHYs is unique in that they are currently the only known capable local source of providing qualified, competent, and a skilled Radiation Physicist/ Radiation Safety Officer on a part-time, three-days a week basis. Additionally, RADPHYS is the only contractor that is capable of providing a qualified on-call emergency Physicist on site within one (1) hour of being notified of an emergency which requires the services of a Radiation Physicist. Additionally, as a result of RADPHYs locality to the VAMC and its 24 hour on call availability, they are able to provide the services required with the greater efficiency than any locum tenum contractor on the GSA Federal Supply Schedule.
