Description
FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY - This contract modification provides Recovery Act (ARRA) funding to create and develop a public query tool (application) to enhance the research capability of the NIDDK Central Data Repository. The Repository stores data from various multi-center trials and epidemiological studies. It also acts as a central coordinating entity by facilitating efficient distribution of data and samples. However the wide variety of studies and the complexity of data collection activities in the various studies makes it difficult for outside researchers to identify the resources that would be most useful. This contract modification will create a public query tool to simplify searches or repository resources to the general public. It will also create tools for repository statisticians to search across studies and perform meta-analyses, learning by combining selected data from various studies. This project will enhance the computerized interface of reasearchers with the NIDDK Central Repository. This is a change to the NIDDK Repository that will have the effect of increasing the efficiency that researchers can explore the available data sets and biological samples for research studies. The amount of time outside researchers need to spend to determine whether or not data sets will support planned studies will be greatly reduced. As such this will be an improvement to the research infrastructure at the Repository. NOTE: This action is not fixed price. The contract is cost reimbursable because the complexity required to coordinate, maintain, and manage a National biomedical research database repository depends on variables that are unknown prior to contract performance. Because of the unknown variables, a cost reimbursable type contract is most appropriate.
