- Justification for Other Than Full and Open Competition: 1. Nature and/or description of the item/service being procured and its intended use (include the anticipated cost):Hand split sugar pine shakes for ARRA historic building roofing projects throughout Yosemite National Park. These shakes are made only by Armstrong Shakes, the one known vendor. Sugar pine logs harvested in Yosemite NP are the raw material used for these shakes. 2. Sole Source Justification rationale:Only one responsible source, in accordance with FAR 6.302-1. Only one vendor produces these shakes utilizing logs harvested in Yosemite National Park. Sugar pine shakes are required for re-roofing Yosemite's historic structures to maintain their historic integrity. 3. Market Research: Extensive market research has been done by Yosemite's Historic Preservation Shop. They have been unable to locate any additional sources.
