Description
THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THIS CONTRACTING OFFICER. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION PLEASE CONTACT THE NANES PROVIDED BELOW. Overview: EFVS technology currently utilizes infrared technology as a key means of enhancing visibility. These requirements include the ability to see the visual cues required by FAR 91.175. These visual cues include airport approach lights, threshold lights, runway end identifier lights, touchdown zone lights or runway lights. The implementation and use of LED approach, runway, and taxiway lighting as a means of compliance to the Energy Independence and Security Act poses a challenge to current EFVS operators due to the lack of infrared energy with common LED lighting Due to EFVS growing operational flexibility and given that both LED lighting and EFVS have cost and energy saving benefits a cooperative approach between energy efficient lighting and EFVS performance is sought. SAE is pleased to invite you to participate in an initial meeting of a new committee to consider Enhanced Flight Vision Systems and the current &future challenge with respect to the upgrade of airport lighting systems from incandescent to energy efficient lighting sources per the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, Sec 321, Efficient Light Bulbs.
