Description
NASA/GRC has a requirement for a replacement hot zone according to the followindstatement of work: Direct replacement hot zone for AVS vacuum/inert gas furnace 4-1334. The hot zone consists of a stainless steel jail approximately 15W x 20L x 17.5H.,eight layers of molybdenum heat shields, and two tungsten heating elements supported bymolybdenum hangers. The front door of the hot zone must attach to the furnace door sothat the hot zone will be accessible when the furnace is opened. This door must also fitso that there is minimal heat escape from the hot zone when the furnace door is closed. Penetrations into the hot zone must match the current hot zone to allow thermocouples andpower feedthroughs to be inserted. Heating elements must attach to the current powerfeedthroughs without modification to these feedthroughs. The hot zone must be capable ofreaching and maintaining 1600C in vacuum.NASA/GRC intends to purchase the items from Advanced Vacuum Systems for replacementcomponents for an AVS furnace are a non-commodity item. Only AVS supplies refractorymetal heating elements and shields that will fit and correctly attach to an AVS furnace. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform theeffort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local timeon March 17, 2010.
