Description
Sources Sought for a Sodium Treatment System Design The Department of Energy-Idaho Operations Office (DOE-ID) is considering issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) as a small business set-a-side for the design of a Sodium Treatment System. Large and Small Business concerns may participate as teaming partners, provided that they meet the small business standards at FAR Part 19 and other applicable requirements. Firms that are currently teaming partners under contract DE-AC07-05ID-14516 are excluded from participation in any award resulting from the subsequent RFP in accordance with FAR Part 9. This system must be designed to treat remote-handled radiological waste containing primarily sodium and some sodium potassium (NaK) materials to render it non-reactive for disposal purposes. DOE-ID may issue a contract for partial system design with options for final design, fabrication and installation in an existing hot cell at the Idaho National Laboratory. The waste is in about 230 containers (including eight cold traps and two nuclide traps) with approximately 1,500 gallons of bulk sodium and 90 gallons of NaK in total. Dose readings on contact range from 0.1 millirem per hour up to 15,000 rem per hour. About 26 of the containers have transuranic constituents. The small qualified concern should have experience designing and installing similar systems that treat radiological waste with sodium and/or NaK, or be able to specifically demonstrate the capability to perform the work. If your firm is interested and you believe you are qualified, please provide the following: 1)A statement describing the company?s interest in performing the work2)Brief background of capabilities3)Previous relevant experience4)Demonstrated ability of treating radiological sodium and NaK containing waste5)Primary contact person name with contact information. DOE will only review submittals with 10 pages or less Questions may be posted on Fed Biz Ops until close of business on March 15, 2010. All answers will also be posted on Fed Biz Ops. Responses must be received at DOE-ID by Friday, March 19, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time by e-mail (not through Fed Biz Ops) to Ron Fellows at the following email address: Fellowrg@id.doe.gov
