Description
The Air Force Weather Agency (AFWA) requests sources sought information with regard to an Upper-Air Observation Capability (U-AOC). AFWA is interested in determining if an off-the-shelf system or technology exists capable of creating an atmospheric sounding profile remotely. The U-AOC should be a scalable solution that can quickly be configured and deployed as part of an integrated theater sensing strategy to support service-specific missions and joint operations. The configuration should be as small as possible, allowing it to be human-portable. The U-AOC should be able to remotely sense/derive and record the following parameters as an observation from the surface to an objective height of 50,000 feet or a height programmable by the operator to meet specific mission needs: o Location and Geopotential Height o Temperature o Dewpoint Depression o Wind Direction and Speed o Pressure The solution must be capable of automated operations without human intervention. The U-AOC must generate observations continuously, on a pre-determined schedule, or on-demand as needed. The U-AOC must measure parameters, process, store, and disseminate all required information in standard formats for local use and sharing with other users for operational situational awareness and weather analysis/forecasting applications. Prospective offerors should submit descriptive literature and other information, such as price, availability, and contract number to the contracting officer at the e-mail address shown. Questions should also be addressed to the contracting officer.
