- Description
- The UT PRA ZION 10(5) Mt. Carmel Highway project is located on Utah State Route 9 in Zion National Park, located outside of Springdale, UT, about 40 miles east of St. George, UT. This project is located in Washington and Kane Counties. The proposed project is in mountainous terrain. Elevations along the roadway range from 4400 feet to 5800 feet. The project begins about 1.5 miles North of the South entrance station in Springdale and proceeds 3.4 miles east to the West portal of the Zion – Mt. Carmel Tunnel. The purpose of the project is to rehabilitate, restore and resurface (3R) approximately 3.4 miles of Route 9. The project may involve nighttime work. Heavy restrictions on construction operations may occur during daytime hours over peak periods due to park traffic. Significant quantities include: 10,400 tons of superpave pavement 34,300 sqyd of asphalt pavement milling 61,000 sqyd of pavement pulverizing It is anticipated that this project will be advertised in mid-February with construction occurring from April to October, 2010. Estimated cost $5.0 to $10.0 million
