Description
The U.S. Army Joint Munitions and Lethality Life Cycle Command, PicatinnyArsenal, NJ is interested in determining the state of the art/state of thepractice of readily available (non-developmental) rifle bore cleaners (RBC). The purpose of conducting this survey as part of a research effort is toidentify and characterize the performance capabilities of different types ofcommercially available RBC candidates. The overarching objective of this RBCresearch effort is to collect sufficient information from this survey andfollow-on tests to ultimately refine RBC requirements and subsequently revisethe existing RBC specification for future procurement. This survey will provide insight to the government on the performance benefitsassociated with commercially available RBC candidates and theiradvantages/disadvantages as compared to current Army weapons cleaners.Interested responders should provide a description of their RBC formulationincluding technical specifications (see questionnaire below) along with anyadditional information the responder deems necessary to describe the physicalcharacteristics and performance of the system. This is a market survey only.This is not a request for proposal. This is not to be construed as acommitment by the government to procure these items, nor does the Army intendto award on the basis of this sources sought or otherwise pay for theinformation requested. There is no formal solicitation available at thistime. All information will be submitted at no cost or obligation to the U.S.government. Note: The Army is interested in products that clean multipletypes of fowling as well as products that are specific fowling focused,e.g. copper.7.In addition to cleaning, does RBC provide corrosion protection? If so,to what extent?8.Over what temperature range can the RBC function?9.What is the manufacturers recommended cleaning procedure? Howmuch time does it take (recommended) from start to finish to clean onebolt action weapon?10.If the RBC is left applied to the bore/chamber of the weapon for longerthan the recommended application time, will it negatively impact barrellife, etch remove substrate material, etc?11.Does the RBC emit strong odors (e.g. ammonia)? Does cleaning needto be done in a well ventilated area?12.Is an MSDS available? If so, please provide.13.Is the RBC compatibile with stainless steel, aluminum, and/or non-metallic materials such as plastics/composites/carbon fiber/etc?
