Description
VA requires maintenance and support for all components and software used to operate the IBM Exchange solution deployed throughout the Department of Veteran Affairs, including VHA, VBA and NCS. There are approximately 250 IBM servers and other ancillary equipment providing this function. A current physical inventory of all VA Exchange equipment was completed in 2008. This maintenance exceeds just break/fix and requires maintaining all IT components including, servers, software, firmware and licensing. Solution support includes 24 hour a day, 365 day a year remote telephone support and on-site support when necessary or requested. The Exchange solution support responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) application support, configuration support, configuration engineering, configuration design, compatibility testing, software testing, and general configuration maintenance. The VA Exchange solution is a platform upon which all email communication within VA operates. It consists of servers, storage, software, Operating Systems, Power Supplies and Regulators (UPS) and racks. It is a highly involved and complicated exchange solution. It is one of the largest Exchange solutions deployed. The solution services over 200,000 users including all VA caregivers. The solution is an integral part of the VA IT infrastructure as it interfaces with a variety of security systems including the Rights Management Services (RMS) Solution, deployed to enhance the security of VA communications. The VA Exchange Solution is responsible, for the email and general communication services of 200,000 users providing over 47 Terabytes of email storage online with a multitude more of that archived.
