- This is a notice of intent that WR-ALC anticipates issuing a firm-fixed price, C-type contract for the procurement of engineering services for a new barrel design for the GAU-2C Minigun to improve weapon system maintainability, reliability, supportability, and service life. Description: Engineering Services in accordance with Performance Based Statement of Work to develop a new Minigun barrel design that will dissipate heat faster and have comparable strength to the current Minigun barrel design. The new barrel design will be manufactured at an adequate level of simplicity to ensure a properly manufactured product with little defects that can be produced by a variety of manufacturing sources. The Air Force shall retain unlimited rights to the final barrel drawings. The period of performance will be 4 months. The approximate solicitation issue date will be 20 Jan 2010 with the approximate response date of 19 Feb 2010. Solicitation will be available for viewing or downloading at www.fedbizopps.gov only. This solicitation will be issued as a request for proposal (RFP). No telephone requests. No hard copies will be issued. The proposed contract is 100% set aside for small business concerns. Based upon market research, the Government is not using the policies contained in Part 12, Acquisition of Commercial Items, in its solicitation for the described supplies or services. However, interested persons may identify to the contracting officer their interest and capability to satisfy the Government's requirement with a commercial item within 15 days of this notice.
