Description
RECOVERY ACT - THE NASA GLENN RESEARCH CENTER (GRC) AWARDED UNDER THE AMERICANRECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT OF 2009 A WORK ORDER FOR TESTING, FACILITIES, OPERATING,MAINTENANCE AND ENGINEERING UNDER THE PREVIOUSLY AWARDED, COMPETITIVE, 8(A) CONTRACTNNC05CA95C WITH SIERRA LOBO INCORPORATED.NASA Glenn Research Center has committed support for specific efforts under the AmericanRecovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Recovery Act funds for NASAs Aeronautics ResearchProgram will accelerate key research, enhance the state of aeronautics for the nation, and provide a foundation for addressing the need for a Next Generation Air TransportationSystem (NextGen.)The specific area of support for this work, per NASAs Recovery Act Program Plan forAeronautics Research, is to develop and assess advanced vehicle shaping approaches neededfor low-boom supersonic aircraft, since sonic boom strength must be lowered significantlybelow current levels to enable community acceptance of supersonic flight over land. Alow-boom external compression supersonic inlet has been designed and will be fabricatedfor testing to enable a future commercial supersonic low-boom aircraft. The inlet will beinstalled and tested at the NASA Glenn Research Center 8- by 6-ft Supersonic Wind Tunnel(8x6 SWT.) THIS NOTICE IS PROVIDED FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY. A CPFF order is appropriate for this procurement because of the uncertain nature of theresearch/testing support activities required cannot be estimated to the level of accuracynecessary to allow the use of a fixed-priced contractual vehicle.
