Description
This is a modification to the synopsis entitled Recovery Act Research Opportunitiesin Space and Earth Sciences NNH09ZDA001N- which was posted on August 03, 2009. You arenotified that the following changes are made: On January 4, 2010, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Headquarterswill establish a new program element in Appendix A.43 entitled IceBridge: Support for2010 Activities. NASA intends that funds provided through the American Recovery andReinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 will be utilized to fund contracts for selectedproposals.IceBridge (http://www.espo.nasa.gov/oib/) is a new NASA airborne mission makingaltimetry, radar and other geophysical measurements to monitor and characterize theEarths cryosphere. The IceBridge mission began operation in 2009 and will continue untilthe launch of ICESat-2, currently estimated for early 2016. The Earths cryosphere is ina period of rapid change. Understanding these changes, their causes and impacts iscritically important to understanding the impacts of future global climate change. Datacollected under the IceBridge program will make fundamental contributions tounderstanding changes occurring in extent and thickness of the Arctic sea ice cap, andcontribute to improved modeling of the increases in global sea level from the worldsmajor ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica. Appendix A.43, IceBridge: Support for 2010 Activities, solicits two types ofinvestigations for campaigns occurring in Spring and Fall 2010: Data Collection collection of altimetry or gridded data; and Temporary Leader of the IceBridge ScienceTeam providing leadership for the ad hoc IceBridge science team that provides expertscientific guidance to the IceBridge project during 2010. NASA intends that fundsprovided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 will beutilized to fund contracts for selected proposals.Participation is open to all categories of organizations (U.S. and non-U.S), includingeducational, industrial, and not-for-profit organizations, Federally Funded Research andDevelopment Centers (FFRDCs), University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs), NASACenters, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and other Government agencies. Upon therelease date, the full text of the solicitation will be available electronically athttp://nspires.nasaprs.com/. No Notices of Intent to propose are requested.
