- Rationale for sole source procurement: The installed crane to be replaced is an Allied Systems TB60-64 telescopic marine crane. Replacement with any other brand/model would require modification to the pedestal/foundation aboard the ship, and update to the ship’s trim and stability calculations. A crane from a different manufacturer, or a different model of crane would require a new ABS certification including extensive review of the crane and installation drawings. Additionally, a direct replacement with the same model crane as existing will reduce the installation time such that installation can be accomplished during a Vessel Repair (VR) period rather than requiring a shipyard availability. This shorter installation during a VR will permit installation during the current fiscal year rather than requiring a Regular Overhaul Or Mid-Term Availability which would likely be January 2012.
