Description
W81XWH-RFI-0005 Medic Hand Held Skin Stapling Device for Use in Austere Environments The Combat Casualty Care Research Program of the Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) provides integrated capabilities for far-forward medical care to reduce mortality and morbidity associated with major battlefield wounds and injuries. The USAMRMC is seeking information regarding wide skin stapling devices which are capable of providing rapid apposition of lacerated skin surfaces for use by combat medics and medical professionals in the austere battlefield environment. Interested firms should submit a 1-3 page whitepaper (with additional sheets for diagrams as necessary) describing such devices and the concept of use. Information will be reviewed pursuant to consideration for the development of a request for devices to be tested. As such, any descriptions of clinical use or test and evaluation studies will be of use. For the purposes of this request for information, we anticipate that devices: 1)1-2 cm wide skin staples 2) rapid apposition of lacerated skin 3) be utilized in multiple trauma scenarios, including scalp laceration, open abdomen, large soft tissue injuries over a hemostatic agent 4) at minimum 15 staple capacity 5)Can be used easily in a tactical environment with a minimum level of familiarization 6) nonglare finish in a earth tone color 7) Be of light weight; 8) Have long shelf life, low cost and low cube/weight with minimal space impact on medic bag. 9) heat stable Responses should be emailed to brian.d.miller1@us.army.mil no later than Friday, December 11, 2009 by 3:00pm (Eastern Standard Time). Submission should be emailed as either a pdf or MS office attachment. Submissions should be on company letterhead and include companys name, point of contact, address, phone number, fax number, DUNS Number, CAGE Code.
