- Description
- Solicitation Package Abby and Emily Rapoport, granddaughters of Madison Council founding members Audre and Bernie Rapoport, have generously donated funds to the Library of Congress to establish a landmark traveling exhibition program that will introduce the Library’s unmatched resources to new audiences across the country, particularly in rural communities. Through the Abby and Emily Rapoport Traveling Exhibition Program, local libraries, university galleries and libraries, and historical societies across the nation will be offered a high quality facsimile and graphic presentation drawn from two of the Library’s most popular past exhibitions, American Treasures and World Treasures. The exhibition will be presented in a mobile unit format with a goal of reaching one hundred venues over a twelve month period. The Abby and Emily Rapoport Traveling Exhibition Program will provide relevant and engaging learning experiences for students, teachers, and lifelong learners. The program will also promote the interactive capabilities of the myloc.gov web site and excite interest in the Library of Congress as a premier destination for individuals planning a trip to Washington, D.C. This project will be the first of its kind executed by the Library of Congress. The Library seeks a vendor to supply a fully furnished mobile unit for a period of approximately twelve months completing presentations at one hundred venues at the rate of approximately two per week. The mobile unit will be a full-size tractor trailer combination with a minimum of seven hundred square feet of exhibition display space capability. The mobile unit will be launched in the Fall of 2010 from the Library of Congress in conjunction with a kick-off celebration TBD. The mobile unit will travel a route TBD by the Library in consultation with the vendor and with final approval from the donors. The route will include, but not be limited to, local libraries, schools, historical societies, colleges and universities, small town streets and parking lots, and other sites TBD. The mobile unit will be outfitted by the vendor with eye catching exterior graphic applications promoting the Library of Congress Abby and Emily Rapoport Traveling Exhibition Program. The vendor will furnish the interior exhibition space with facsimile presentations drawn from the Library’s American and World Treasures exhibitions (both exhibitions can be found on the web at http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/treasures, and http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/world respectively). All content, images and text, will be supplied by the Library in electronic format for approximately 140–160 objects. The image files will be supplied in high resolution in order to produce high quality facsimiles. Any 3-D props will be supplied by the vendor per the final design plan. The exhibition space will also provide up to four internet stations, and up to four MP3 player stations (Example = Corn players, LOC to provide specifications), and one audio visual station to feature a short film as determined by the final design. The exhibition ephemera and finishes will be consistent with Library of Congress exhibition standards and quality, and satisfy all applicable safety, ADA, and security requirements. The vendor will fabricate and install all necessary exhibition elements for the interior and exterior following a detailed approval process outlined below. The vendor will provide detailed interior and exterior preliminary design drawings for Library review and approval. The vendor will provide the Library with any necessary revised drawings until final design and construction drawings are approved by the Library. The vendor will work with the Library of Congress project manager to maintain successful operation of the tour once the mobile unit is launched. The vendor will also provide thorough logistical support for the mobile unit during the tour, as well as pre-tour and post-tour travel, and coordinate with host venues and the Library. The vendor shall follow any and all related local, state, and federal laws obtaining any and all necessary permits, insurance, and licenses for the operation of a mobile unit. The vendor shall be responsible for providing internet capability to any and all internet stations as per the final design plan.
