Description
RECOVERY - PER FAR 5.7 THIS NOTICE IS PROVIDED FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY; THEREFORE, FAR 5.203 DOES NOT APPLY. THIS OPPORTUNITY WAS AVAILABLE ONLY TO THE UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON RESEARCH INSTITUTE UNDER THE CURRENT CONTRACT NUMBER FA8650-08-C-5304, ADVANCED MANUFACTURING PROPULSION INITIATIVE (AMPI): ADVANCED NON-DESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION (NDE) FOR CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITES (CMCs). Award under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, Department of Defense Near Term Energy-Efficient Technologies Program Plan, Fuel Optimization for Mobility Platforms (Category), Materials - Ceramic Matrix Composites (Project Title). Ceramic matrix composites for turbine engines/lightweight composite to metal joining; CMCs will replace metal coated components resulting in a decrease in specific fuel consumption (SFC) for turbine engines. Some estimate savings for engines with CMCs components vs. metal coated components. Legacy engines will be able to integrate technology downstream in depot. The specific objective of this program/contract remains to improve CMC manufacturing processes through the use of NDE technologies that will result in increased yields and quality, and reduced costs and process times. This contract action was not awarded as a fixed price contract type because uncertainties involved in contract performance did not permit costs to be estimated with sufficient accuracy to use any type of fixed price contract. As such, a cost-reimbursement type action was awarded (FAR 16.301-2).
