- The US Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District, intends to award a contract for the replacement of two existing freight elevators located at Bonneville Dam's First Powerhouse. Bonneville Dam is located approximately 40 miles east of Portland, Oregon, on the Columbia River. These elevators are original equipment (circa 1938) and are also used by Project personnel. Elevator #1 is used between the elevations of +55 (Generator Floor) and +126 (Powerhouse Roof & Switchyard access). Elevator #2 provides access from Generator Floor +55 down to the -42 Air Compressor Room. The intent of this work is to replace both elevators bringing them up to current standards of safety and reliable operation. This contract requires the design, in-shop fabrication, on-site installation, and testing, of both elevators. The period to design and fabricate both elevators will be approximately 6 months with an additional 4 months for installation and operational testing. The new elevators are currently scheduled to be fully operational NLT December 2010. The successful low bidder for this work must have a minimum of 5 years prior experience in designing, fabricating, and installing elevators of similar size and complexity and be licensed to perform this work in the State of Oregon.
