- Description
- The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) intends to solicit proposals from commercial banks for a multiple-award contract to provide banking services to Medicare Claims Processing Contractors, and to make Medicare benefit payments from the Hospital Insurance (HI) or the Supplementary Medical Insurance (SMI) Federal Health Insurance Benefits Account, otherwise known as Medicare trust funds. The commercial bank must be able to provide a full range of commercial banking services to Medicare Claims Processing Contractors. In addition to general banking services, the banking contractor must be able to: •Meet the minimum financial stability criteria established by CMS and the U.S. Department of the Treasury; •Comply with the rules and regulations for electronic banking established by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC)/U.S. Department of the Treasury; and •Demonstrate the ability to process a large volume of electronic and paper check Medicare payments. The proposed period of performance is April 1, 2010 through March 31, 2015. It is anticipated that CMS will award a contract on or about December 10, 2009.
