Description
The Navy has a need for a thermal protection coating for use on general purpose bombs. The currently used coating is MIL-C-81904, which is an outdated spec written directly around the current thermal coating. The government plans to develop a new performance based spec for the coating, and hopes to select a new suitable material(s) for protecting warheads during the Fast Cook-Off (FCO) environment. The new coating must be: less hazardous than the existing coating, less expensive than the existing coating, more easily applied and repaired than the existing coating, impact resistant, robust against very harsh environments, including outdoor storage, salt water exposure, and rough handling, and most importantly, it must also provide the same or better thermal protection as the existing coating. This thermal protection is important to the Insensitive Munitions (IM) capabilities, and must help meet MIL-STD-2105. More detailed information on the desired coating properties is available to interested vendors upon request.
