- Description
- This action modifies an existing contract to provide funding for ACTNOW Clinical Trail numbered 8340. The purpose of this contract modification is to conduct a Phase II single-arm trial comparing the use of FLT PET to standard computed tomography to assess the treatment response of neoadjuvant docetaxel and cisplatin in stage IB-IIIA resetable non-small lung cancer under the CTEP ACTNOW program. Accelerated patient accrual and completion of the study is expected within twenty-four months. This study will be extended from a single-center to a multi-center study, invovling three additional performance sites. Rationale for using other than a fixed price: This contract reimburses the contractor on the basis of patient accrual. The number of patients accrued cannot be predicted with enough accuracy to justify a fixed price type contract, however, the Contractor is paid the same amount for each patient in the study. Although the contracts have a fixed price cost per patient, most of the contracts include cost reimbursement provisions for non-patient care costs. Uncertainties involved in contract performance do not permit costs to be estimated with sufficient accuracy to use any type of fixed price contract. As such, a cost reimbursement type action is appropriate.
