Description
NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center has a requirement for the acquisition of a NexlineN-214K005 actuator and compatible cables. A Nexline N-214K005 actuator is currentlybeing used in the test-bed and a second identical actuator is required, as the newactuator must be interchangeable with the currently installed actuator. The linear actuator must meet the following requirements:Non-magnetic and does not generate magnetic fields during operationVacuum compatibleProvides 1 nm or smaller step size (or micro-step size)Provides a minimum of 20 mm total travelHas a control system / control electronics that may be re-engineered for a space vacuumapplicationOperating temperature range of within 20 +/- 10 CHas a position feedback sensorNASA/GSFC intends to purchase the items from Physik Instrumente L.P. pursuant to FAR13.106, for the acquisition of supplies or services determined to be reasonably availablefrom only one source. Physik Instrumente (PI) can meet the requirements for the followingunique features:The PI Nexline actuators and controllers allow extreme precision displacements(sub-nanometer, less than one-billionth of a meter) across long stroke lengths. Themotion of the actuator shaft when driven by the PI control electronics can be describedas an inchworm motion. The PI Nexline actuators utilize multiple piezo-electric stacks with compression andshear strokes that allow the actuator to perform precise inchworm displacements of theactuator central shaft. The PI Nexline controller for the actuators contains drivers and the control electronicsnecessary to drive the voltage accurate to achieve nanometer displacements. The PI Nexline actuators are being qualified for space-flight use in the LISA PathfinderCaging Mechanism. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform theeffort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 2:30 p.m. local timeon the date specified.Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for thepurpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and opencompetition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretionof the government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency.. An Ombudsman has been appointed. See NASA Specific Note "B".
