Description
This is a Request for Proposal (RFP) N8227092011 for current contract holders of the BLM national IDIQ contract for Fuels Reduction. The specifications, terms and conditions applicable to the parent contract as well as those included in this RFP apply to this task order. Grand Canyon NP (GRCA) will be implementing several Prescribed Fire projects (Roost- HWY 67, Roost- Fawn Spring, Roost- East Basin, Roost -North Basin, Roost-West Basin and Boundary- Spring Canyon, ) during the fall of 2010 requiring mechanical thinning, hand piling and covering of thinning slash and ground fuels beginning in mid to late September 2009. Treatment will consist of thinning, piling and covering thinning slash and ground fuels on approximately 280 acres. The project area is located in Coconino County in northern Arizona. The project area is on the North Rim of Grand Canyon. The terrain within the project area is mostly flat or less than 10% slope. Vegetation to be thinned, piled and covered consists primarily of Spruce, Aspen, and Fir. Treatment will be conducted by a crew of sawyers and swampers to reduce standing trees, snags, and down and dead woody material. The slash, and down and dead woody material will then be hand piled and covered using chainsaws as the primary tool. The areas to be treated have been identified based upon the need to meet holding requirements once the prescribed fire projects commence. Treatment will occur in a method that reduces fuels along critical portions of each defined prescribed fire burn unit boundaries approximately 99 feet (1.5 chains) in from the defined perimeter of each burn unit, this 99 foot corridor will be defined as the treatment area, map attached. There is road or trail access along the entire length of the treatment areas and foot travel of short distances is required. Access to the project area is along HWY 67, the W4 Road, W1 Road or various Forest Service Roads. The performance of this scope of work is expected to begin between September 15th, 2009 and September 30th, 2009. It is estimated that it will take 90-180 days to complete this project.
