The AG-HPX500 camcorder, by Panasonic, does not record to tape - it utilizes a "flash" type card to record all video images. This allows for immediate access to recorded material (via a "firewire" connection between the editor and the camera) and there is no transfer of "taped" imagery that takes place. This workflow is compatible with our existing Avid video editor, with no other equipment purchases necessary. If something other than the P2 option is purchased, other peripheral equipment will be required to integrate functionality into our current work-flow (ie. Studio Recorder/VCR, Time Based Corrector, multi-function switch, cabling, etc...would be required). Also, if another video format is acquired, other than P2, there could be new,/additional "space" requirements to accommodate the extra peripheral supporting video gear. To provide an example of the advantage of the P2 workflow, I'll use a 60 minute recording session:Normal video production Workflow: 1. Set up time: 20 minutes 2. Record time: 60 minutes 3. Break down: 15 Minutes 4. Real-time transfer to editor: 60 minutes 5. Editing time: 120 minute
