- ROCK STRIKE QUESTIONS & ANSWERS SET #2 1. Glass ceramic product specification - We request further clarification of the answer provided under Question 1. There are a number of glass ceramics in the market, e.g. quoting from Wikipedia page for Glass Ceramic entry - Some well-known brands of glass-ceramics are Ceran (cooktops), Eurokera (cooktop, stoves and fireplaces), Zerodur (telescope mirrors), or Macor These named glasses are partial crystalline - would any of these be acceptable as the glass ceramic layer? These materials have widely different properties with regards to hardness and strength which is likely to result in widely varying rock strike performance. On the other hand, there are optically clear (crystalline) ceramics such as Spinel, sapphire and ALON. These materials are far superior to above glass ceramic materials in terms of rock strike performance. Are you looking at one of these materials for the glass ceramic layer? Answer: The glass ceramic shall be water-white or clear per the Purchase Description ATPD 2352 (latest revision). It must present itself as an optical window material not just IR or EM. The high cost of this material was one reason the coupons were made so small. 2. I went to the DID library and only found some of the DID's referred to item 4. authority box. Could not find Data item no. A004 DI-ADMN-813123A or A006 DI-MISC-80048A. Can you supply or direct me as to where I can down load these? Answer: Re missing Data Items (DIs). See attachments D and E. One of the items was misnumbered and had an extra 2 inserted. It should be as attached.
