Description
Statement of work The requested RF equipment will be used for pest disinfestations over a range of machine settings. USDA-APHIS and is attempting to develop an alternative schedule for wood treatment that would be considered quarantine safe and universally used by all countries moving wood, particularly Solid Wood Packaging Material (SWPM). The only two universal treatments currently available for SWPM are methyl bromide and conventional heat (kiln). There is a real need to expand our treatment capabilities, particularly with methyl bromide identified for phase-out as an ozone depleter. USDA APHIS is interested in a experimental machine that can be used for testing under controlled and varied conditions. Continued technical support through the company is absolutely essential. We are not interested in throughput or volume (i.e., we do not need conveyors). We will be testing one piece of wood at a time with thermal probes placed within the wood and readings routed to a dedicated PC. The structure of this oven should be able to accommodate a fixed FLIR infrared camera for measuring the integrated surface temperature of each individual piece of wood tested. The camera is on order separately, and can be provided as Government Furnished Property to the selected company for integration into the unit. USDA APHIS is not interested in wood drying but using RF equipment to heat to lethal temperatures for insects and pathogens.
