Description
I am extending the response date until August 19th at 11 AM Here's directions and hours to the Gloucester Visitors Center where the mural is located: Directions to the Visitor Center are as follows: Rte. 128 North to Exit 14. At the end of the ramp, bear right onto Rte. 133. Follow Rte. 133 to the end where it intersects with Rte. 127. Gloucester Harbor will be in front of you. Go right and then take your next left into Stage Fort Park. Hours: 9:00am to 6:00pm 7 days a week The painting is currently held onto the wall only by a strip molding frame that has been nailed around it. The canvas has sagged and bulged at the bottom. The painting has been rolled in the past, and this has caused some loss of paint in vertical bands of about one quarter inch throughout the painting. There are three vertical tears all starting from the top of the canvas. The first tear is located 30" from the left edge and is 22" long. The second tear is located 48" from the left edge and is 3" long. The third tear is located 70" from the left edge and is 6" long. There is a significant amount of rippling along the left edge of the painting. The ripples are arranged in a series of crescent shaped bulges extending into the canvas approximately three to five inches. There is also a draw (straight ripple extending down from the corner at a 45 degree angle caused by uneven tension on the two adjoining sides of the painting) in the upper left corner. There are many losses throughout the painting. Some of the small losses have been inpainted in the past, but much of the inpainting does not match the original color. The painting is significantly discolored and dingy.
