- The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Covaris, Inc, Woburn, MA 01801, pursuant to 41 U.S.C.253(c)(1)--Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. This purchase is for one (1) each of the following item: 1) Part Number 500003; Description - S2 High Performance Sample preparation instrument. 2) Part Number 500029; Description - S1 Accessory Kit. 3) Part Number 500117; Description - S2-DNA Kit which includes the following; (1)each of 500114 Holder, 500142 Prep Station and (4)bags of 520045 6x16mm 100ul tube, AFA Fiber and cap system (100 tubes total). 4)Part Number 510001; Description - CH01 Recirculating chiller for use with Covaris Instruments. 5) Part Number 530013 Installation a& on-site training - ½ day. 6) Part Number 530006; Description - Full Service plan for the S-Series. 7) Part Number SFP-DISC The Covaris S2 Sonicator is the only machine on the market that uses the adaptive focused acoustics technology required for controlled shearing of genomic DNA and chromatin in samples in volumes between 0.1 and 10.0ml, and does so under strictly temperature controlled conditions - with real time temperature monitoring that prevent sample heating, which is very difficult to control standard ultrasound sonication devices and is able to reduce the genomic DNA to fragments the sizes of which fall 80+% between 75 and 200 base pairs. Specific requirements; acoustic waves of less than 1mmm, isothermal operation, real-time temperature monitoring, ability to control the temperature with a circulating water bath, effective between 0.1m. And 10ml, physical size in the range of 10 inches wide by 24 inches wide by 24 inches deep due personnel so as not to require them or the operator to use hearing protectors or the placement of the instrument into a specialize enclosure. Interested parties may identify their interest and capability. Respond to this requirement by submitting written capabilities/specifications to the Purchasing Agent at the address stated. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals; however, all responses received within 8 days from the date of publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract action based upon responses to this notice is solely with the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. If no affirmative responses are received within 8 days of this notice to determine whether a qualified source is more advantageous to the Government, an order will be placed with Covaris Inc. The NAICS Code/Size is 3345516/500 Employees. This procurement is to be processed using Simplified Acquisition Procedures in conjunction with FAR Part 12, Acquisition of Commercial Items and is not expected to exceed the Simplified Acquisition threshold of $100,000.
