- Description
- Insensitive Munition (IM), 105mm Cartridge for the PGU44/B-E1 on the AC 130 Gunship The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Mac Dill AFB, Tampa Florida, is conducting a market survey for a manufacturer of a PGU44/B-E1, Insensitive Munitions (IM) cartridges for the AC 130 gunship. The PGU44/B-E1 is an improved version of the presently used PGU44/B in that the HE Comp B is being replaced by PBXN-109, an explosive with IM qualities. Venting holes are also being placed at the base of the cartridge case so that venting of the M67 propellant can take place during the IM thermal threats, i.e., Slow Cook Off and Fast Cook Off. For use on the AC 130 aircraft, the projectile and the brass cartridge case, is crimped to the projectile so that the two travel together as one in the PA 71 container prior to installation onto the aircraft. The manufacturer must have experience in filling M1 projectiles with IM Insensitive explosives. It must understand ullage space needed to accommodate expansion during temperature cycling. It must be familiar with means to line the interior walls of the projectile for adhesion of the explosive. During this phase of the program, USSOCOM is interested in purchasing four hundred (400) cartridge cases fully assembled in a PA 71 container. No fuzes are required for these rounds. These rounds will be used to conduct a qualification of the round on a ground gun to insure that all safety requirements are met. The PGU44/B-E1 will later replace the standard PGU44/B in production. All respondents must be able to demonstrate past performance as well as the capability to provide system engineering integration, manufacture vented cartridge cases, and experience to fill projectiles with insensitive explosives. Competence in these areas shall be demonstrated through written description of the vendors past and/or current experience of manufacturing similar systems. Interested sources should submit their information no later than 14 August 2009 to the contracting officer, Ms. Verdetta Weaver at weaverv@socom.mil. Submittals should include the contractor's name, address, point of contact, telephone number, email address, and size of business. All submissions must be in electronic format. Questions of a technical nature should be submitted to Mr. William Andrews at william.andrews@socom.mil. This market survey is for information and planning purposes only, it does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP). It is not to be construed as a commitment by the US Government. The Government reserves the right to reject, in whole or in part any private sector input as a result of this market survey. The Government is not obligated to notify respondents of the result of this survey.
