- Herbicide Application Data Form Access Map Vicinity Map Topographic Infestation Map Solicitation Package This contract requires providing approximately 1000 head of yearling goats (or older) with herders, guard and herd dogs, to graze 800-1000 acres of yellow starthistle in a study area on lower Bentz Ridge, Northeast of White Bird, Idaho on the Nez Perce National Forest. The project area is an open, steep grassland slope bounded on the south by the South Fork White Bird Creek and Pinnacle Creek and on the north by Bentz Ridge. The objective is to shrink the population extent and density and reduce seed production of yellow starthistle. Grazing would occur for approximately 6-7 weeks beginning when the yellow starthistle is in the early-flower phase. This study area was treated using goats in 2006, 2007, and 2008. A single contract will be awarded for 2009 with three, one-year, optional renewal periods. Solicitation issued 7/22/09.
