- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to award a contract to Geisinger Health System on a Fixed Price Basis to conduct a research study to collect and analyze data related to Polycythemia Vera (PV) and other MyeloProliferative Diseases (MPDs) in a tri-county area of northeastern Pennsylvania. In addition to the research study that will 1) determine the patterns of diagnosis/reporting for MPD patients by physicians, 2) determine the natural history of PV in the cluster area compared to PV patients in other areas and, 3) determine the prevalence of the JAK2 mutation in healthy individuals in the cluster area compared to that in the general population, Geisinger will also be required to provide physician training and education on diagnosis, reporting and treatment of PV and other MPDs. Geisinger Health System is the only contractor with the necessary access to physicians and MPD patient medical records in the cluster area and is the only contractor who can provide the required cluster-area blood specimens for the JAK2 prevalence study. Geisinger Health System has proprietary rights to the data that will be used for this project. The data comes from Geisinger's medical databases and records of Geisinger Health System physicians and is not available to other contractors. The North American Industry Classification Code is 541712. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals, but all replies received within 15 days of publication will be considered. A determination not to compete based on responses received, and to proceed with a noncompetitive award is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
