- Description
- The Department of Energy, Savannah River Operations Office (DOE-SR),hasobligated $887,182,384 million dollars provided under the AmericanRecoveryand Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) on its existing management andoperating(M&O) contract with Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC (SRNS). Thisfundingwas awarded under Contract Modification Number 030 and will result in anacceleration of cleanup work specified within the current scope of thebasiccontract. Contract Modification 030 obligated funds for Soil and Water Remediation,Deactivation and Decommissioning, Solid Waste Management, and modificationofassociated impacted site systems (e.g. removal of steam lines and reroutingofelectrical systems) All work under the Recovery Act contract modification is within the basicscopeof Contract DE-AC09-08SR22470. The work was planned as current (FY09) andoutyear requirements (contract year 2 and beyond), but through the award oftheRecovery Act funds, the out year work will be accelerated to commence inFY09(contract year 1); thereby meeting the intent of the Recovery Act tostimulateeconomic growth while also allowing DOE-SR to meet its strategic goals ofreducing the Environmental Management (EM) footprint and making Federalland atSavannah River Site (SRS) available for other missions. Accelerating the work under Contract DE-AC09-08SR22470 is projected tocreateapproximately 3,000 jobs for the skilled workforce available in thesurroundingarea.
