- This is a Modification. Work consists of removing the existing lightning protection system and components and installing a new catenary's lightning protection system to include surge suppression on in coming power and Comm. The new system shall utilize copper components wherever possible. The LPS is to be designed and installed by an Underwriters Laboratory (UL) certified company. The poles need to be inherent bond type for catenary lightning protection system. Shop drawings shall include site specific layout of existing conditions and new installation. Drawings shall be scaleable and dimensioned with adequate detail, including cross sections if applicable, to demonstrate compliance with installation standards. Design analysis shall be provided to demonstrate compliance with design standards. The UL Master Label has been replaced by the UL Lightning Protection Inspection Certificate. The UL inspection should verify compliance with all referenced standard and the UL certificate should indicated compliance with all referenced standards. Any deficiencies identified by UL must be corrected prior to acceptance. Connections should be cad welded or high compression crimps to ensure longevity. Strike termination devices are not required on metal masts but if included; masts should have strike termination devices molded into the galvanized steel structure not bolted onto the top. System must be installed according to the 100 ft rolling ball distance. Masts must be installed at least the bonding distance or side flash distance but not less than 6 feet. Wire must be a continuous run of at least 6 AWG. Each metal mast must have two connections to the grounding system.
