Description
The California Institute of Technologys (Caltech) Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL),operating under a prime contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA), is seeking potential responses from small businesses to provide an extendableboom (mast) in support of an Earth Science mission.BACKGROUND: The Laboratory is seeking responses to provide an extendable boom (mast) insupport of a potential Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) Project. REQUIREMENTS: This RFI is designed to collect information from small businesses whichhave experience in the design, manufacture and delivery of graphite composite masts, which fold for installation on the delivery rocket and deploy once in space orbit on eachside of a spacecraft and support a reflectarray at their ends during a spacecraft missionorbiting the Earth. The masts must meet stringent weight and stiffness requirements, and be able to positionthe two (2) reflect arrays to the high accuracy specified in the RFI on either side ofthe spacecraft. The masts must be able to keep orbit related factors such as changes insolar energy on the masts from adversely affecting the position of the mast ends andconsequently the position of the attached reflectarrays which must be maintained to thevery tight specified standards.RESPONSE DEADLINE: Please submit your expression of interest and capabilities statementto Mary Helen Ruiz via e-mail: maryhelen.ruiz@jpl.nasa.gov no later than July 24, 2009.POINT OF CONTACT: Please direct any questions regarding this synopsis to Bill Kert,Subcontracts Manager, via email: William.D.Kert@jpl.nasa.govDISCLAIMER: It is emphasized that this synopsis is for preliminary planning purposes onlyand does not constitute a commitment, implied or otherwise, that JPL will solicit you forsuch procurement in the future.
