Description
SCOPE OF WORKFOR2009 ARCHEOLOGICAL CATALOGING PROJECTATINDEPENDENCE NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK Project DescriptionThis project will contract for archeological cataloging services to produce standardized museum catalog records for an estimated 20000 archeological specimens associated with the excavation of historic areas in Independence National Historical Park, a unit of the National Park Service. These areas include 18th and early 19th century domestic and public sites within the city of Philadelphia PA. The excavation of these sites is documented in a variety of ways, including field notes, site reports, object inventories, and site drawings. This documentary material will be provided to the contractor for use in preparing the catalog records. Task OrderThe contractor will catalog all of the estimated 20000 archeological specimens according to the National Park Service's Automated National Cataloging System+ standards and produce complete electronic catalog records for these specimens (both individually and lot cataloged). Electronic versions of all the catalog records will be provided to the park on CD-ROM at the conclusion of the project. Conduct of the WorkAll the archeological specimens to be cataloged will be transported to the contractor's facility at the contractor's expense. The contractor will retain the order in which the archeological specimens are currently stored, including those specimens that are bagged as lots. Within each lot, the specimen with the largest dimensions will be numbered with the catalog number by the contractor. The contractor will also place an acid-free paper tag showing the catalog number into each bagged lot. The contractor will use the ANCS+ software to produce the electronic catalog records supplemented by the Independence National Historical Park archeological cataloging manual. At the conclusion of the project, the contractor will return all of the housed archeological specimens (both individually and lot-cataloged) to Independence National Historical Park along with the CD-ROM of all catalog records. The National Park Service will pay any costs associated with the contractor's mandated use of the ANCS+ software.
