- This is an initial MARKET SURVEY to obtain commercial information on vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) and their potential installation in various coastal communities of Alaska. There is no solicitaiton package available for this announcement. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Alaska Region, is conducting initial market research ONLY. No award will be made as a result of this synopsis nor are any solicitation materials available. The US Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 7, Alaska is seeking sources of commercial manufacture of vertical wind turbines. General Requirements and Request for Information: 1) Due to concerns with severe injury to migratory birds and indigenous bird species which may collide with small scale propeller driven electric generators/turbines, this request for information is ONLY for vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT), similar to helical savonius turbines, multiple unit installations of small scale, variable size ranging from 1-kw to 10-kw output per unit, foundations and masts; the purpose is to supplement primary electric power from a local electric utility to single-family and multi-family residential type facilities; 2) Manufacturing in the United States; 3) Inversion of excess power to the local electrical utility grid; 4) Performance, reliability and noise signature; 5) Technical capability in-house or via sub-contractor affiliation to evaluate local conditions, design, supply, construct and commission full functioning systems; 6) Multiple year warranty; 7) Production history; 8) Affiliation with 8A small business contractors;9) Possible Locations: Izembek National Wildlife Refuge (NWR), Cold Bay, AK; Alaska Peninsula/Becharof NWR, King Salmon, AK and Selawik NWR, Kotzebue, Alaska. Information requested includes commercial methodologies and practices relative to requirements previously mentioned, contract types(s), known market forces, challenges to successful acquisition, current industry standards, processes and practices (e.g. terms and conditions, warranties, financing, technical experience, etc.).
