- Description
- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Western-Pacific Region has awarded a short-term 6-month single source contract to Akal Security, Inc. for the FAA's Honolulu Control Facility located on Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, HI. The award was issued as a single source procurement based on the need to meet critical dates. A competitive solicitation was issued in January 2009 (DTFAWP-09-R-90004). The solicitation was canceled in February 2009 because of the FAA's redefinition of security guard vendor qualifications. At that point it was decided that there was not sufficient time to announce, solicit and award a new contract and have a new contractor procure weapons and qualify his employees in time to meet the start date of April 1, 2009. Therefore, a short-term 6-month contract was awarded to the incumbent contractor on a single source basis in the amount of $245,444.30. The period of performance is from April 1, 2009 to September 30, 2009. The FAA is considering transferring the security responsibilities of this facility to the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Protective Service (FPS) effective October 1, 2009. However, if the FAA decides not to affect the transfer to FPS on this date, a new competitive solicitation will be announced.
