- Description
- Purpose of Announcement: In accordance with the FAA Acquisition Management System (FAAAMS) paragraph 3.2.2.4, the purpose of this announcement is to inform industry of the basis for the FAA's decision to contract with NJEdge viasingle source procedures. In support of the Weather Sensors and Weather Processors Groups, there is a need to establish a communications infrastructure into the Internet 2 (I2). This activity is critical to the support of the NextGen Mission initiatives and collaboration with the research and FFRDC communities. Specifically, the Group's assignment is to support the FAA NextGen initiate by establishing the NextGen Weather Evaluation Capability (NWEC), which is in development at federally funded facilities around the country. The NWEC is the cornerstone to several NextGen Weather initiatives including the NextGen Network-Enabled Weather (NNEW), Aviation Weather Research, Weather Technology in the Cockpit (WTIC) and the Reduced Weather Impact (RWI) programs. All efforts lay the foundation for the NextGen 4D Weather Cube, which transforms weather data acquisition, processing and dissemination for the FAA National Airspace System (NAS). NJEDge is a non-profit technology consortium of academic and research institutions, which is restricted to approved government agencies, universities and research communities in New Jersey and is the directed I2 portal for this geographic region. A competitive solicitation is not available for this procurement. If your firm does not agree with this single source determination, please provide evidence of your firm's capabilities and experience in providing the above service. The FAA will evaluate this accordingly. All responses to this announcement must be directed to William Bleda not later than 12 noon, Easter Standard Time, 04 May 2009. Responses may be sent via e-mail to William.Bleda@faa.gov.
