- The USDA Forest Service, National Forests in Florida intends to award a sole source contract for short term, temporary management support services on an as-needed basis on the Osceola National Forest, Baker and Columbia Counties, FL. Proposed contractor is Thomas Spencer, Lake City, FL. This announcement is for information purposes only. The needed services consist of providing inspection and oversite for ongoing timber projects, oversee progress of ongoing service projects in Stewardship Contracting, assisting in timber sale contracts, and related forestry support projects. The required services are needed immediately due to recent retirement of employee with responsibility and oversight of the timber sale and silviculture programs on the Forest. The proposed contractor is a retired Forest Service employee and has current expert knowledge and specialized skills to perform the required services, and is thoroughly familiar with Forest Service regulations, policies, procedures, facilities, systems, programs, and critical points of contact to maintain continuity of needed services. Services are required on an as-needed basis for approximately 6-12 months until position is filled on a permanent basis. The time and effort necessary to advertise and award a contract and train another individual to perform the needed services would be seriously detrimental on the ongoing mission of the Forest. Amount of award is less than $25,000.
