Description
SOURCES SOUGHT - THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION PACKAGE BUT AN EFFORT TO FIND INTERESTED, QUALIFIED COMPANIES Title: Geologic Mapping Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, California The National Park Service (NPS) has undertaken a Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) of 270 natural area park units. Santa Monica National Recreation Area is included in these 270 areas. The contractor must be capable of producing a digital geologic map, defined as a map that depicts the geographic distribution at the Earth's surface of bedrock and/or surficial geologic materials and structures, on a published base map showing topography, hydrography, culture, cadastral, and other base information. Digital geologic maps may also contain a great variety of point data for specific sites, creating a 3-dimensional database, where applicable. A geologic map generally includes an explanation, description of map units and symbols, cross sections, and a variety of other information. Geologic maps produced under this contract must meet those standards as identified in Part I d of the USGS-NCGMP 2004 STATEMAP program announcement No. 04hQPA0003. This document can be found online at http://www.usgs.gov/contracts/STATEMAP/index.html. The park covers fourteen 7 minute quadrangles, including two on the east half of the Santa Barbara 1:100,000 quadrangle and 12 on the Los Angeles 1:100,000 quadrangle. The contractor will produce a single, compiled geologic map of the entire SAMO unit based upon new mapping where necessary and the compilation of existing maps of the same scale that may already be published. Inconsistencies among published and new maps must be rectified with seamless edge matching provided in the finished product. Additionally, the park experiences recurring landslides that impact park natural resources and infrastructure. The contractor will provide a compiled landslide map database that seamlessly covers the entire park and depicts landslides that have been previously mapped by the California Geologic Survey and others on the fourteen 7 1/2 minute quadrangles that comprise the park. These maps may be generated through interpretation of landforms as observed on maps, aerial photographs, and in the field. Each landslide on these maps must be described in terms of its activity, type, confidence of interpretation, direction of movement, and estimated thickness. An accuracy assessment (peer review) must be conducted to validate the final maps. Period of Performance for the entire project (all quadrangles mapped) is 24 months from award. Final map products will include: "Digital geologic map, preferably in ESRI ArcGIS 9.x or latest version; personal geodatabase (.mdb) for each digital geologic-GIS map with a Geologic Unit Information table and Source Map Information table, where applicable. At a minimum, all geologic features present on the published map(s) are present as GIS data, and are fully attributed shape files to standards as identified in Part I d of the USGS-NCGMP 2004 STATEMAP program announcement No. 04hQPA0003"Accompanying text and graphics containing map explanatory information, "A description of map units; "A stratigraphic column depicting stratified units;"Where applicable, a correlation diagram showing age relationships of map units;"An explanation of map symbols; and"FGDC compliant metadata for all files developed. These may be delivered via CD-ROM or by file transfer protocol (ftp), or some other suitable agreed upon electronic medium. Experience in the USGS STATEMAP requirements is required as well as experience in geologic and landslide mapping in or near Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. Depending on the responses, this may become a small business set aside.
