- COMMERCIL ITEM The purpose of this solicitation is to procure the services for treating mountain pine beetle infested Lodgepole and whitebark pine trees by destroying the developing brood. The de-barking of mountain pine beetle infested trees destroys the developing brood thus ending the life cycle for that particular beetle population. The contractor shall cut down the identified infested trees, sever the limbs from the tree bole, and remove the bark and cambium from portions of the bole that are greater than 5 inches diameter. The limbs and portions of the bole that are less than 5 inches diameter will be treated by either 1) lop and scatter or 2) handpiled and covered. See exhibit 01 for slash treatement requirements. The project area is located in the vicinity of Scott Mountain Lookout and Bull Trout Lake areas. The Scott Mountain trees are whitebark pine located on the Emmett Ranger District and the Bull Trout Lake trees are Lodgepole pine located on the Lowman Ranger District.
