Description
Service Disabled Veterans Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) Outreach, Training and Industries Exchange Forum-Omaha, NE Service Disabled Veterans Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) Outreach, Training and Industries Exchange Forum, 28 May 2009 The Omaha District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host a SDVOSB outreach, training and industry exchange forum in furtherance of market research of its Military, Civil, Environmental, and Engineering Programs Over 18,000 Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) firms are currently registered in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) database. This number continues to grow. To increase procurement opportunities for veterans, Congress passed the Veterans Benefits Act of 2003 (Public Law 108-183). This provides acquisition set-asides for SDVOSBs. The rule implanting this Act grants acquisition professionals the authority to use the set-aside program. Executive Order 13360 further emphasizes the importance of meeting the statutory 3 percent goals. America honors the extraordinary service rendered to the United States by veterans with disabilities incurred or aggravated in the line of duty during active service with the armed forces. The objectives of the forum are to: 1. Encourage and facilitate participation by SDVOSB, and Small Business Community (SBC) members in competing for award of federal contracts. 2. Educate SDVOSB and SBC members on how to obtain the necessary registrations and certifications to compete for federal contracts. 3. Encourage stakeholders (customers, consumer and constituents) and partners to subcontract with SDVOSB and SBC members. 4. Educate SDVOSB, stakeholders, partners, societies, associations and agency personnel on applicable law and policies relating to participation of SDVOSB in federal contracts. 5. Disseminate information to SDVOSB and SBC members that will assist them in participating in awards of federal contracts. 6. To provide an overview of current and future government requirements. 7. Share innovative strategies (new technologies and radically reduced project durations) in the acquisition process. 8. Develop acquisition strategies and approaches for award of contracts, (2) notify incumbent contractors of consolidated requirements (3) identify industry best practices. 9. To encourage non-traditional Service Providers, especially SDVOSB, on how to obtain the necessary registrations and certifications to compete for NWD RBC contracts.
