Description
The Army Contracting Command (ACC) Joint Munitions & Lethality (JM&L)Contracting Center, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000 on behalf of the Office of the Project Manager Combat Ammunition Systems is seeking information from Industry on the development of a common Global Positioning System (GPS) form factor or possibly multiple form factors with required functionality and interfaces that can be used in mortar and cannon artillery guidance applications. The Government is planning to use Draper Labs to support development of a Performance Specification and Mechanical, Electrical and Software Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for a Common GPS for Artillery and Mortar guidance applications. It is anticipated that this effort will begin in April 2009. The Government may use this GPS Specification and the ICDs as requirements for the Precision Guidance Kit-2 (PGK-2) acquisition. The planned approach and timeline are: -Draft specification (Spec) and ICDs will be released for industry comments approximately 90 days after initiation of the Draper task. - A 30 day period for industry review prior to an initial Interface Control Working Group (ICWG) meeting, with a follow up ICWG 45 days later. -Release the final Spec and ICD approximately 30 days after the second ICWG. The Government is interested in feedback from both the potential GPS suppliers and the potential cannon artillery and mortar guidance applications prime contractors on the above approach with specific responses to the following: -The respondents willingness to provide comments to the draft spec and ICD. -The respondents willingness to participate in the two ICWGs. -Any suggested changes to this approach. This RFI is for information and planning purposes only, and does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP). It is not to be construed as a commitment by the U.S. Government. No award will be made as a result of this RFI. All information is to be submitted at no cost or obligation to the Government. The Government reserves the right to reject, in whole or in part, any private sector input as a result of this RFI. The Government is not obligated to notify respondents of the results of this RFI.
