Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announce its intention to negotiate a non-competitive award for the purchase of services, a population-based study to Ifakara Health Institute, Ifakara, Tanzania. The purpose of the Post Partum Interview (PPI) Study is to collect data on recently pregnant women in Ifakara, Tanzania investigating maternal and newborn illnesses and deaths. The contract will be 3.5 months in duration and must begin March 15, 2009. Ifakara Health Institute has been identified as the only organization capable of performing this study because they have direct access to Ifakara Demographic Surveillance Sites (DSS) which has data on mothers and babies between October 15, 2008 and January 17, 2009. In addition, Ifakara has access to the population study site located in the Morogoro region includes over 70,000 people residing in 25 villages spread over 1440 square kilometers in the Kilombero district and 1000 square kilometers in the Ulanga district. Each household in the DSS is visited every four months to track births, deaths, in-and out-migrations as well as to gather other relevant socio-demographic data. Each death is investigated with widely-accepted verbal autopsy instruments to identify a possible cause of death. Results of this study will serve as baseline information for the development of interventions to reduce mortality and morbidity and of a research agenda in maternal and newborn health. This is not a Request for Quotation. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals, but all replies received within 15 days of publication by email will be considered. A determination not to compete based on responses received, and to proceed with a noncompetitive award is solely with the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
