Description
Establish a multi-year contract with a container ship company to provide access to a loaded ship 3-6 times per year for the purposes of shipboard radiation testing and analysis during a continuous trip (approximately 4-6 days) from Norfolk to Houston. Access shall include the following onboard accommodations: •· Berthing •· Messing (Meals) •· Access to public spaces onboard the ship •· Access to (loaded) cargo holds/bays The shipping company needs to meet the following requirements: •· U.S. flagged vessel •· S hiping company must have or be able to obtain a Department of Defense or a Department of Energy facility clearance •· Operate between Houston, TX, and Norfolk, VA •· Operate between 4 and 6 continuous days at sea •· Authorize Scientists full unescorted access to all common areas of the ship •· Support first trip in May or June 2009, but no later than July •· Support up to 6 trips per year •· Provide English speaking crew •· Loaded container ship > 900 feet and < 1,000 feet •· Berthing for 5-6 Scientists, 1 Safety Officer/Coordinator, and 1 Company representative •· Three meals per day for 7-8 riders •· Proven experience in safely conducting similar operations with scientific ship riders •· Secure space onboard to safely store radioactive sources •· Safe access to all cargo holds/bays •· Ventilated cargo holds/bays with breathable and safe atmosphere •· Staging area for 1300-1500 lbs. of research and support equipment •· Medium sized area in ship's house for meetings, data entry, battery charging, and equipment maintenance Interested parties shall provide information demonstrating they can povide the requested services.
