Description
Grouse Survey: The contractor will conduct lek surveys in the contract area in spring 2009. The contract area is defined as that portion of the Little Missouri National Grassland that is in western Slope County, North Dakota. Lek surveys will entail finding new leks as well as determining whether or not previously located leks are still active. A final report will be written as requested in Report Requirements. Work is to begin by March 15, 2008 and finish by August 31, 2009. There are approximately 106,000 acres of National Forest System land in the contract area. CONTRACTOR QUALIFICATIONS: B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in zoology, biology, or related field experience. One or more field seasons of experience in grouse surveying. One or more field seasons experience as principle investigator on a grouse survey project. This survey’s purpose is to locate and map most or all of the occupied sharp-tailed leks in the study area. The Forest Service recognizes that locating every single lek might require intensive field work. It is more important that the entire study area be covered rather than every lek be located. Although the number of birds at each lek is of interest, it is the lek location that is of primary importance. Therefore, this survey should be considered extensive, rather than intensive, in nature. The data collected will be used by the USDA Forest Service for future management and planning decisions A complete Solicitation Package will be uploaded into FedBizOpps by close of business February 9, 2009. Final bids will be due March 2, 2009.
