- The work involves interaction with staff members of several organizations in the former Soviet Union, primarily the Republican Research Institute of Radiation Medicine and Human Ecology in Belarus, the Research Center for Radiation Medicine in Ukraine, and the State Research Center-Institute of Biophysics of the Russian Federation. The latter group is involved in the project because of their efforts to perform measurements of radioactivity in the thyroids of persons residing in the Gomel and Mogilev oblasts in Belarus following the Chornobyl accident in 1986. The results of work performed by all these groups are subject to technical review and evaluation, which is the main focus of the work identified for this contract.
